Courageous

Last Friday evening Phyllis and I gathered with many friends and the Winshape Foundation at the Fabulous Fox Theater for the Red Carpet Premiere of Sherwood Pictures newest motion picture, COURAGEOUS.  This was the second time we have seen the movie and it is great.  God has His hands on the Kendrick brothers and the team of Sherwood Pictures.  This is a God-thing.  Once again we will listen and watch as Hollywood shakes its head and asks questions that can only be answered with one word... GOD.

Like Fireproof was to marriages, Courageous will be to fathers.  I cannot wait to see how creative the body of Christ will be as they reach out to capture the hearts of fathers and seek to turn their hearts to their children and ultimately to God.

Speaking of the church.  I am blown away by the great and powerful free resource the church community is to the promotion of these movies.  It's like "loose 'em and let 'em go" or "sic 'em" and get out of their way as they promote, advertise, talk it up, buy out theaters and whatever way God leads them to get involved.

Honor does begin at home.  Beginning on September 30 it will be all over the movie screen as well.

Living With the Giants

The title may not be what it seems (or then again maybe it does).  Part of our family lives in San Francisco and we have three grandboys that are big SF Giant fans.  They know the roster, can tell you various starting lingups and know the starting rotations ERA.  Oh, they are 7, 5 and 3.  The three year old does not sleep with his glove, but it goes on as soon as he gets up.  Complete with imagination, he can play by himself, play every position and according to him he is undefeated.

Their mother (our oldest daughter) and the boys spent the month of June with us.  It was exciting around our house.  They plan on coming back next year, although not for an entire month.  I don't think their dad coped very well.

I remember as a child, my "Granddaddy" playing catch with me.  It was a daily occurence in the summer.  Everything I know about baseball I learned from him.  So when my oldest grandson said, "Pops, will you throw the baseball with me?"  I was all too ready.  Opportunites like that don't come too often.

They have hopes of playoff baseball (we do too in Braves country).  They live a block from the stadium which fuels a lot of their enthusiam.  They are back in SF now and we won't see them again until November.  When I get on that plane I will have my Bible and my baseball glove.

Under Repair

Have you ever seen a sign that included the words "under repair"?  Perhaps it was in a shopping mall and in front of your favorite store.  Maybe it was on a golf course and referred to "ground under repair" (which can be a very good thing if your ball is there).  Regardless of where the reference was or was to it meant that some work was in progress.

Every year my wife's side of the family vacations on Jekyll Island.  My brother-in-law refers to it as "The Best Little Island in the World."  Complete with bike paths, miles of beach and "chocolate water" it is our home for a week each summer.

Jekyll Island is a state park.  For years it has been quiet and quaint.  For years we have had to leave the island for "fine quisine" and most shopping.  A few years ago (to the dismay of the locals) developers descended here and began to dream, plan and "plot".  "Progress" some would say.  "Invasion" would be the words of the locals.  Regardless of your opinion (and there are many), Jekyll is "under repair."

The convention center has been leveled.  The shopping center has been torn down.  New parking lots and beach accesses have been built. Plans for hotel development and new venues are seen everywhere.  Progress is in the making.

"Under repair or restoration" is not a bad thing when God is the architect and builder.  As a matter of fact, I welcome His handiwork.  "Revive me" is a desire and a heartcry these days from my heart.  I delight in Him.  I cry to Him.  I depend on Him.

"O God revive your work in the midst of the years."
